Desk/tables tops can be cut to all sorts of shapes and sizes. Most custom shapes can be cut by a CNC machine or hand shaped for about £50. We can accept your design in whatever is best for you: sketch it on paper, draw it in powerpoint or create a 3D model and send the DXF file. You can also request any salvageable offcuts to be delivered along with the desk top, free of charge.

There are plenty of ways you can turn even small pieces of solid wood into something useful for your home. Here are some simple ideas.
How offcuts are prepared by the workshop
Offcuts are pre-sanded free of charge, and depending on the size/shape, the main surfaces can be sent finished in the same finish as the main top, but make sure you let us know before hand. The edges of the offcuts are not generally finished, but again, if you let us know your requirements we can arrange to have offcuts fully finished and shaped (for a fee) too.
Chopping boards
A thick, solid offcuts can be used as a high-quality chopping board. You will need to apply a food-safe oil to protect the wood. Hardwoods like oak and walnut work best since they’re more durable and knife-friendly.
If you want to get fancy, you can shape handle, add a groove around the edge to catch liquids or drill a small hole for easy hanging. You can use the board for everyday kitchen use or as serving board for cheese and bread etc.
Coasters & trivets
Smaller offcuts are great for making custom coasters and trivets. Depending on how precious you are about them, applying a durable finish could be required – this will help keep the natural grain. Otherwise you could paint them, dip them in resin or burn the surface for a custom design.
For trivets, you probably need slightly thicker pieces of wood to provide the required heat-resistance. You can arrange several offcuts together in a pattern or keep it simple with a single, polished piece.
Wooden wall hooks & pegs
With just a few small blocks of wood, and some hooks (extra points for salvaged/reclaimed one). These simple wall hooks for hanging keys, towels, or accessories.
If the offcuts are teeny tiny, you could shape them into small rectangles or cylinders, sand them smooth, and attach them securely to a wall or wooden board.
Phone or tablet stands
Offcuts can also be turned into a phone or tablet stand without much work. Carving a groove into the wood at the right angle, to create a sturdy slot to hold your device upright. following a recipe while cooking, or bed side stand to help you take advantage of your phones “Nightstand/Bedside Mode”. You can also watch videos hands free or keep your screen visible while working.
Shelves
A simple wooden ledge can hold small plants, candles, or decorative items. If the mini floating shelf doesn’t have much space, it won’t need to carry much weight, and so is more simple to install; even in stud walls.
You can also angle a piece of wood to make a stand for books or framed photos.
Stair treads
If you have long, sturdy wood offcuts, that are cut along a stave, not across multiple staves, they can be turned into stair treads. Not a frequently used suggestion, we will grant you that!
