The Mittzon launched in 2024 as IKEA’s replacement for the Bekant. It is still relatively new, which means UK reviews are thinner than they are for older frames like the IdĂ„sen or Skarsta/Trotten. There is enough out there (and enough in the specs) to give a useful picture, so that is what this post does.

Where it sits in the IKEA lineup
IKEA currently offer three sit/stand frames: the Trotten (manual crank, entry level), the Mittzon (electric, mid-range) and the IdÄsen (electric, premium, Linak motors). The Mittzon slots between the two. More capable than the Trotten, less expensive than the IdÄsen. That is exactly where the Bekant used to sit, and the Mittzon does the job considerably better.

What customers are saying
Early reviews (primarily from IKEA’s own regional sites and some independent desk forums) are broadly positive, particularly on stability and value for money. The dual-motor setup gets praise for being smooth and quiet at the price point. Several reviewers note it feels considerably more solid than the Bekant it replaced, and the square-profile legs are more modern across the industry as a whole.
Assembly comes up in a number of reviews. The sliding crossbeam mechanism (which lets the same underframe work across three top widths) adds steps to the build. Most describe it as manageable, but note that two people makes it significantly easier, particularly for the larger sizes.
The plug-in cable management module is generally well received, but perhaps not visually, it is quite an opinionated design decision to have the cable management system integrated into the visual part of the desk. It runs the full rear width of the desk, keeps cables contained, and includes space for a power strip. A recurring point in reviews is that the module’s role in the overall desk depth (it accounts for 120mm of the total 800mm) is not well explained by IKEA’s own product pages. Worth reading our overview post on this before ordering, particularly if you are looking at a solid wood top, as unless you have seen it in person, it can get quite complicated to explain!
Positive points from current reviews
Looks. People like the square-profile legs . They are more modern and are a clear upgrade on the old round columns. White or black frame, with a decent range of top finishes including oak, walnut and birch veneer. If you are pairing it with a solid wood top, both colours work well.
Better height range than the Trotten. The Trotten goes down to around 72cm. The Mittzon reaches 60cm. This was a missed market previously. (The best minimum and maximum height desk frames). It offers a real difference for shorter users, or anyone who wants a proper sit height without compromising the standing position. An improvement over both the Trotten and the old Bekant.
Dual motor. Single-motor frames wobble more at height, particularly with a heavier top. The Mittzon’s dual setup handles a solid wood top without complaint, and the added mass of solid wood helps reduce any residual movement at standing height.
Three widths. 120cm, 140cm and 160cm. The 140cm option fills a gap the Bekant never addressed and suits most home office setups well.
Worth knowing
Only 2 memory presets. The IdÄsen has 4. For most people 2 is enough, but if you share the desk with someone at a significantly different height it is worth factoring in.
The depth constraint is real. The back edge of the top is fixed to the frame and cannot be moved. All depth variation happens at the front. The solid wood top is 680mm deep, not 800mm. The rear 120mm is the cable module. Standard tops on our Mittzon product page are pre-cut to 680mm. A seamless 800mm top with an integrated cutout is also possible via the custom route.
Solid wood tops are 20mm as standard. This matches the IKEA laminated thickness and sits flush with the plug-in module. Want something thicker? You can order any standard size at a different thickness. Just add “Mittzon, [thickness]mm [wood]” to the extras field. A thicker top will sit proud of the cable module at the rear, which is fine structurally but worth knowing about visually.
Assembly takes time. The sliding crossbeam adds complexity relative to a simpler fixed-beam frame. If you have built a Flexispot or IdÄsen before, the Mittzon is comparable. First-time build: allow at least an hour (and bring a friend).
How does it compare to the IdÄsen?
The IdÄsen uses branded Linak linear actuator motors: industry-standard components and genuinely excellent. The Mittzon does not, and the difference would be noticeable if you test them side by side in store, or even just over time with the difference in guarantee. The IdÄsen is also more stable at the top of its range. If you are planning to stand at the desk for long periods with a heavier setup, the IdÄsen is worth the extra.
For most home office users (one or two monitors etc) the Mittzon is more than adequate, and it is considerably better looking than the old Bekant it replaced.
