Description
Dining tables need to be study, hardwearing and look great.
Our dining table tops can be commissioned at any size, and configured with a number of options to create a new table, or replace an existing top. They are finished with high quality finish to help guard against spills and stains. Read our dedicated post to learn more about what to consider when configuring a solid wood dining table top.
When it comes to the legs, generally dining table tops are used in combination with either:
- an existing set of dining table legs.
- third party metal legs (industrial legs, hair pin legs etc).
- an existing table top.
- a kitchen island.
Attaching your dining table top to existing dining table legs: table tops are general fixed to the table legs with brackets that you can reuse. Some dining table tops are also glued onto the underskirt which could make detaching the top from the frame more tricky than anticipated. Wood glue is very strong, and if glued with dowls, you might find the frame is damaged when the top is eventually separated from the frame. Be cautious of oversizing the top much larger than the original top – the frame was designed with a certain size of overhang.
Attaching your dining table top to metal legs: generally the way forward for a new dining table project. Things to consider: ensure there is enough support. A large, deep solid wood top will likely need more than just 1 leg on each corner. Dining tables when loaded with plates, dishes, drinks (and elbows!) have to carry a lot of weight. Make sure the table will not tip by putting legs closer to the edge and having enough of them.
Attaching your dining table top to an existing top: Sometimes it is easier to sit the new table top onto the old one, especially if the existing top seems like it might be difficult to separate. Consider how you will attach the top. Wood glue could be all that is needed, but make sure there is enough even pressure on the whole top whilst the glue goes off, make sure both surfaces are sanded and prepared for adhesive. Be wary of introducing too much overhang.
Sitting your dining table top on a kitchen island: smaller houses often lack room for a dining table, so our unique product offering is a removable top that sits snuggly on your kitchen island. Learn more about our Kitchen Island Converter / Extender here.
